GEORGETOWN ROUNDABOUT COMMITTEE

And it’s another addition to the Georgetown volunteer weather reporting history. Linda Terry – by herself- was the statistics gatherer and reporter from her house from 1970 to 1981. So please add Linda to the back patting list.

Great news attached from Town Treasurer Mary Sims. December sales tax receipts were the second best of the last five years, and the year-end total was 5.67% above 2010 and 2.12% above the five year average.

By the way, when you look at the agenda for the Board of Selectmen’s meeting next week, it’s not a typo that the date is the 13th. Their meetings are usually held on Tuesdays, but Tuesday of next week is Valentine’s Day so the meeting was moved to Monday. No, I didn’t ask whether this change is happening because Board Members were threatened by their spouses, or if the Board Members are just naturally sensitive and romantic spouses, or what.

Here is an interesting thing about the photo of the water tank titled South storage tank 2-9-12 002 showing the workers installing the roof on the new water tank. You’ll notice that there are only two ring sections underneath the geodesic domed roof. The finished tank will have five more of those rings, and here’s how that will happen. Now look at the attached photo titled South tank new 2-1-12. There are BIG jacks spaced around the lowest tank section, and when they’re ready to install a new ring the two lower rings and the roof will be jacked up for the installation of the next ring. Cool, huh?

TOMORROW NIGHT don’t miss the Community Center’s Chocolate Cocktail Party from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. Now let’s see, Tuesday is Valentine’s Day, so you would certainly get extra credit with your spouse if you did something special on Tuesday, PLUS spring for the fabulous Chocolate Cocktail Party tomorrow. AND, we know the Community Center will LOVE you if you participate and give a little of your hard earned cash to this very worthy organization.

Every year the Friends of the Library open a Soup Kitchen, well they call it a Soup Lunch to show appreciation for the on-going totally positive relationship between the Library and the public. Soup’s on next week on Thursday, Feb. 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Library. It’s not just one kind of soup, there is a veritable forest of slow-cookers lined up offering delectable soups - we guarantee that you’ll have a hard time choosing! Be there, they want to feed you.

NEXT FRIDAY is the Devil’s Gate History Club at the Community Center at 7:00 when Michelle Slaughter will present 75 Years of History at the Loveland Ski Area.

Georgetown Paving Operations

We had a meeting yesterday regarding the paving in Georgetown from 5th to 11th. The following came out of the meeting:

Asphalt Specialties will be milling the entire route on Thursday, September 15th.

Asphalt Specialties will be paving back the entire route on Friday, September 16th.

Asphalt Specialties will begin paving on Rose Street at the intersection of 5th Street and work towards 7th Street. They will be closing this stretch of road to traffic from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.

After they have completed Rose Street, they will move to 7th Street. Asphalt Specialties will be shutting this stretch down from Rose to Brownell. We will be using the variable message board to inform thru traffic to use Rose street as an alternative. This will take place between 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Once again they will complete this section before moving on.

Finally they will pave Argentine/Brownell after they are done on 7th. Asphalt Specialties will maintain traffic during this operation due to the railroad loop. We will be using the variable message board to inform thru traffic to use Rose street as an alternative.

By being able to phase the paving this way, they will be able to complete it in one day instead of the two days they originally planned. Rory from Asphalt Specialties and Dave from my office walked the route today and informed the residents and business owners of the upcoming work and closures.

During the paving in town, Asphalt Specialties is requesting the use of alternative routes instead of the haul road. Since they will be paving what was used for the haul road for the project, it would be difficult to maneuver their trucks and meet the production they need to complete this in one day. They are also asking for a variance from the 7:00 PM quit time. Everything should be completed by 7:00 PM but in order to complete the work, they want permission to work past if needed.
